MORRIS, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Morris men's swimming & diving program competed in its first intercollegiate meet on Friday night at Cougar Pool, marking the beginning of the newest sport offering at Minnesota Morris. Nebraska Wesleyan University spoiled an otherwise celebratory evening with a 174-71 victory.
The night's opening event was the 400 Medley Relay and the team of
John Gulon,
Jakob Linscheid,
Louis Freeman, and
Max Lundgren combined for a time of 3:59.20. In the mile that followed,
John Slatinski turned in a time of 19:58.39, winning the event by default as the lone competitor in the race. The other event win in the pool for the Cougars came from Freeman in the 50 Freestyle as he won by a comfortable margin in 23.82 seconds.
Over in the diving well,
Gregory Simons posted 185.65 points over six dives on the 1-meter boards and 109.85 on six dives from a height of 3 meters.
Gulon posted a pair of runner-up finishes in the 100 and 200 Backstroke, clocking times of 54.88 and 2:06.11. Minnesota Morris also had three third-place swims.
Josh Meixell had two of them with a 2:05.76 in the 200 Freestyle and a 24.67 in the 50 Freestyle. Lundgren was third in the 200 Butterfly with a 2:42.27.
In the night's final event, the 'A' 400 Freestyle Relay team of Freeman, Lundgren, Slatinski, and Gulon took fourth in 3:38.28.
Minnesota Morris and Nebraska Wesleyan will meet again tomorrow at Cougar Pool starting at 11 a.m.
