Men’s Swimming & Diving Wraps Opening Weekend with Loss to Nebraska Wesleyan

The Cougars and Prairie Wolves met for the second day running, with NWU taking away a 142-50 victory on Saturday.

MORRIS, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Morris men's swimming & diving team closed its first weekend of competition with a 142-50 loss to Nebraska Wesleyan University at Cougar Pool. 

The day's first race was the 200 Medley Relay. The Cougar team of John Gulon, Josh Meixell, Louis Freeman, and Jakob Linscheid combined to swim a 1:48.78 and finish in third place.

Minnesota Morris had two event victories in individual events. Gulon won the 100 Backstroke comfortably with a time of 55.64 seconds. Gregory Simons competed on the 1-Meter boards and posted a score of 188.50 points to earn points for the Cougars as well.

Runner-up finishes for the Cougars came from Freeman in the 50 Freestyle (23.71) and Max Lundgren in the 500 Freestyle (5:55.06). The day's final event also brought a second-place finish for Minnesota Morris with the team of Gulon, John Slatinski, Linscheid, and Freeman combining for a 1:35.33 in the 200 Freestyle Relay.

Minnesota Morris hosts its final meet of the season on Friday, Nov. 3, with the men's team taking on Iowa Lakes Community College at 5 p.m.
