Men’s Swimming & Diving Continues Impressive Showing at Augustana Invitational

The Cougars made it to a number of ‘B’ finals on Friday while facing Division I and Division II competition.

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The University of Minnesota Morris men's swimming & diving team had a successful day in the water during the second day of the Augustana Invitational. The Cougars tallied 73 points as a team on Friday and now have 133 points with one day of competition left.

During Friday's prelims, the fastest Cougar times came from John Gulon in the 100 Butterfly (57.58) and 100 Backstroke (56.25), John Slatinski in the 400 IM (5:09.17), Louis Freeman in the 200 Freestyle (2:03.68), and Jakob Linscheid in the 100 Breaststroke (1:11.73). On the 3-Meter boards, Gregory Simons placed seventh with 135.95 points. 

Those times and others were good enough to qualify for a handful of finals on Friday night. In the 'C' final of the 100 Butterfly, Gulon was 27th and Freeman was 28th with times of 58.76 and 1:01.23. Slatinski followed with a big drop in the 400 IM 'B' final, touching in 5:02.57 to place 13th. Racing in the 'C' final of the 200 Freestyle, Freeman finished 22nd in 2:05.10.

In two other 'B' finals, Linscheid was 15th (1:11.02) and Josh Meixell was 16th (1:13.37) in the 100 Breaststroke, while Gulon was 15th (55.90) in the 100 Backstroke. 

The evening's final event was the 200 Medley Relay, where the Cougar 'A' team of Gulon, Linscheid, Freeman, and Meixell placed 10th in 1:46.41.

Prelims for the final day of the Augustana Invitational begin tomorrow at 10 a.m., followed by finals beginning at 5:30 p.m.
