ASHLAND, Wis. – The University of Minnesota Morris women's basketball team eased to a 92-32 win in the UMAC opener on Friday night at Northland College, improving to 3-6 overall (1-0 UMAC) for the season.
The Cougars jumped ahead immediately and never looked back, with
Maddy Grove supplying the first eight points of the game in a 12-0 run. With the score 17-4, Minnesota Morris proceeded to fully put the contest away with a 26-0 run that bridged the first and second quarters and increased the margin to 43-4 before the team went to the break with a 56-14 advantage.
The second half began as a copy of the first, with Minnesota Morris scoring the first 14 points of the half behind the play of Grove and
Jay Kwateh. The Cougar lead was 84-20 after three quarters and UMN Morris took its foot off the gas in the final 10 minutes to finish off a 60-point victory.
Minnesota Morris finished with five double-digit scorers, led by
Claire Stark's 20 off the bench.
Shelby Mortenson neared a double-double off the bench as she had 10 points and a game-high nine rebounds. Grove finished with 18 points, while Kwateh had 14 points and eight steals.
Jadyn Sondrol knocked down three triples and finished with 11.
The Cougars wrap up their weekend on the road on Saturday with a 3 p.m. contest at the University of Wisconsin-Superior.
