OWATONNA, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Morris women's tennis team picked up its first win of the season with a neutral-site victory over Buena Vista University, 9-0.
The Beavers had four players available, so the Cougars started the day with a 3-0 lead courtesy of a default at No. 3 doubles and Nos. 5 and 6 singles. Minnesota Morris clinched the win with two doubles victories.
Abby Burquest and
Valerie Gail were easy 8-0 winners in the No. 2 match, while
Kiley Rodarmel and
Allison Bruhn battled to an 8-7 (11-9) win at No. 1.
In the No. 1 singles match, Rodarmel came from behind for a 2-6, 7-5, 10-7 victory over Rachel Brockney. The other three matches went much more smoothly for UMN Morris, with Burquest getting a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 2 over Haley Meseck, Bruhn notching a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 3 over Abigail King, and Gail finishing off a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 4 over Jenny Almanza.
Minnesota Morris is back in action on Feb. 17 with a road match at Morningside University beginning at 11 a.m. in South Sioux City, Neb.
