Runners Enjoy Productive Day for Women’s Track & Field at Gopher Classic

Though the large meet featuring teams from every level of the NCAA was unscored, the Cougar runners acquitted themselves nicely in a tough field.

MINNEAPOLIS – The University of Minnesota Morris women's track & field team took part in the Gopher Classic on Saturday. The meet featured teams from NCAA Divisions I, II, and III, and is likely to be the largest field that the Cougars will be a part of throughout the indoor season.

A number of Saturday's highlights came from the track. Grace Hambike was the top sprinter for Minnesota Morris in the 60 Meter Dash with a time of 8.56 seconds, placing 18th. Elizabeth Frias was 23rd in the 200 Meter Dash with a time of 28.83 seconds. Triniti Neuhart matched Hambike with an 18th-place finish in the 400 Meters (1:06.16), while Ilsa Hoaglund came in 13th in the 3,000 Meters (12:15.89).

In the 4 x 400 Meter Relay, the Cougar team of Neuhart, Briahna Hensel, Paige Diekmann, and Frias came in seventh with a time of 4:41.64.

In field events, Ellie Beckius tied for sixth by clearing 4-5 (1.35m) in the high jump. Coming off UMAC honors a week ago, Kim Peters competed in two events with a 10th-place finish in the triple jump (29-3.25 (8.92m)) as her best showing. Finally, Anna Briggs led the Cougar throwers in a pair of events, taking 17th in each. Briggs notched distances of 39-2.25 (11.94m) in the weight throw and 33-0.50 (10.07m) in the shot put.

Minnesota Morris will make a second trip this season to Saint John's University on Feb. 11 for the Saint John's Invitational beginning at 11 a.m.
