SARTELL, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Morris men's tennis team was back in action after a lengthy layoff, but lost by a score of 8-1 to Martin Luther College on Wednesday afternoon.
Martin Luther jumped out to a 3-0 lead after doubles, with an 8-5 loss from
Will Marsan and
Marshall O'Meara representing the closest the Cougars came in any of the three matches.
Carver Hammond was the only UMN Morris player to notch a point, securing a win in his No. 4 singles match. Facing Elijah Schulz, Hammond rallied from a 6-7(4) loss in the first set, recording a 6-0 win in the second set to send it to a third-set tiebreaker where he notched a 10-4 victory.
Matt Gearou fell at No. 1 singles, 1-6, 3-6.
Clayton Klema was defeated at No. 2 singles, 0-6, 1-6. O'Meara took a 2-6, 1-6 loss at No. 3 singles. Marsan lost a 3-6, 1-6 decision at No. 5. No match was played at No. 6 singles.
Minnesota Morris is back at the Sta-Fit in Sartell tomorrow at 12 p.m. to face Crown College.
