NEW ULM, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Morris men's tennis team lost its finale on Monday afternoon at Martin Luther College by a score of 7-2.
Matt Gearou was involved in both points won by Minnesota Morris on Monday. At No. 1 doubles, he paired with
Carver Hammond for an 8-6 win, though Martin Luther took a 2-1 lead after doubles by virtue of a pair of 8-4 wins at No. 2 and No. 3.
In singles, Gearou gutted out a 1-6, 6-3, 6-3 victory over Josiah Wordell at No. 1 singles. Two other singles matches went to a third set, but Martin Luther was able to claim both. Hammond fell to Josiah Koelpin at No. 3, 7-6(1), 0-6, 6-10. At No. 4,
Marshall O'Meara suffered a close loss to Elijah Schulz, 6-7(4), 6-3, 4-6.
In other singles action,
Clayton Klema lost at No. 2, 5-7, 4-6.
Max Gmuender was defeated at No. 5, 2-6, 0-6. At No. 6,
Muthu Meenakshisundaram lost by a count of 0-6, 1-6.
The Cougars conclude their final season of competition with a record of 2-11 (1-9 UMAC).
