MORRIS, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Morris track & field teams hosted a small meet on Friday afternoon. Joining the Cougars in action were competitors from Martin Luther College and the University of Northwestern, with the men's team winning the meet and the women's team taking second behind the Knights.
The men won five of the eight events that were held on the afternoon.
Sean Diakite took the high jump by clearing 5-5 (1.65m), while
Matt Kudrle was second by clearing 5-3 (1.60m).Â
The other four victories for the Cougar men all came from the throwers.
Bryan Zepeda set a new PR and had the seventh-best throw in school history in the shot put, winning with a distance of 45-5.75 (13.86m). The top five finishers in the hammer all came from UMN Morris, with
Luke Petersen launching a winning throw of 168-2 (51.27m).
Anthony Staryszak was a double winner in the discus (143-0, 43.60m) and the javelin (132-4, 40.33m).Â
The Minnesota Morris women's team had two event victories, both from throwers.
Anna Briggs led the way in the hammer throw with a distance of 129-11 (39.60m) as the Cougars had the top four finishers in the event.
Lauren Parsons won the javelin with a mark of 98-3 (29.95m).Â
Briggs added a runner-up finish in the shot put with a distance of 34-3.5 (10.45m).
Kendra DeRosa finished second in the long jump with a leap of 12-1 (3.68m) and
Elizabeth Tornell was also second in the pole vault by clearing a height of 6-10.75 (2.10m).Â
Minnesota Morris heads to Moorhead tomorrow morning for the Ron Masanz Classic, hosted by Minnesota State University-Moorhead beginning at 10 a.m.
