MOORHEAD, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Morris men's and women's track & field teams headed to Minnesota State University-Moorhead on Saturday for the Ron Masanz Classic. The Cougars had a pair of performances that earned spots in the record book as the teams prepare for the UMAC Outdoor Championships.Â
For the Cougar women's team,
Kim Peters had the program's ninth-best triple jump with a distance of 32-5 (9.88m), which was good for second overall in the event. Peters also posted a leap of 15-4.75 (4.69m) in the long jump to take 12th.
It was a busy day of action in field events for the Minnesota Morris women. Other top finishers were
Jennifer Steinbring in the discus (95-5, 29.09m),
Lexi Gerdes in the shot put (28-3, 8.61m),
Bethany Knopp in the javelin (54-5, 16.60m),
Maggie Landwer in the pole vault (8-0.75, 2.46m), and
Ellie Beckius in the high jump (4-8.25, 1.43m).Â
On the track,
Nibras Luqman ran a 13.51 in the 100 Meter Dash.
Elizabeth Frias led a trio of runners in the 200 Meter Dash with a time of 28.56. Three other running events saw
Kendra DeRosa run a 1:22.76 in the 400 Meter Dash,
Ilsa Hoaglund run a 2:41.50 in the 800 Meters, and
McKenna Langerud post a 5:22.80 in the 1,500 Meters.
For the men's team,
Izayah Boss ran the seventh-fastest time in school history in the 100 Meter Dash with a time of 10.93. The only other running event for the Cougars on Saturday was in the 800 Meters where
Rory Shackelford led the way with a time of 2:04.53.
In men's field events,
Sean Diakite set a new PR in the high jump by clearing a height of 5-8.50 (1.74m).
Bryan Zepeda was the top thrower in two events for Minnesota Morris with distances of 119-5 (36.40m) in the discus and 44-0.50 (13.42m) in the shot put.
Minnesota Morris hosts the two-day UMAC Outdoor Championships next week on May 5-6. Action begins at 2 p.m. on Friday afternoon and continues at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
