Throwers in Action at UW-La Crosse

Cody Nye broke his own school record in the shot put on Friday afternoon.

LA CROSSE, Wis. – The University of Minnesota Morris men's and women's track & field team sent a small group of throwers to compete on Friday at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Eagle Open. Cody Nye broke his own school record in the shot put to highlight the results for the Cougars in the unscored meet.

Nye added more than five inches to his previous school record in the shot put with a toss of 52-6.75 (16.02m), finishing second in a field of 19 throwers. That new distance for Nye puts him 21st in the country in NCAA Division III and has him in the running for a spot at the national meet in two weeks. Bryan Zepeda finished eighth in the shot put, posting a distance of 43-2.5 (13.17m).

Zepeda added a 17th-place finish in the discus with a toss of 115-3 (35.12m).

The other event with men's throwers on Friday was the hammer throw. In that one, Luke Petersen took ninth place at 162-4 (49.48m), while Conor Thornbrugh was 21st with a distance of 135-10 (41.41m).

For the Minnesota Morris women's team, Anna Briggs, Lauren Parsons, and Jennifer Steinbring were all in action in various events.

Briggs took 15th in the shot put with a distance of 32-3 (9.83m) and was 17th in the hammer throw with a mark of 132-10 (40.49m).

Parsons finished 27th in the hammer throw with a 99-4 (30.29m) and was 12th in the javelin with a throw of 93-3 (28.43m).

Steinbring ended her day with a 25th-place finish in the discus (77-9, 23.70m) and a 28th-place showing in the hammer throw (93-6, 28.50m).

As the season begins to wind down, Minnesota Morris will send another group on to a final qualifier next week. Currently slated for the Cougars is the UW-La Crosse Final Qualifier on May 18 beginning at 3 p.m.
