Men’s Swimming & Diving Returns to Action at Augustana

The Cougars faced the Vikings head-to-head on Friday night as they competed for the first time since November.

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The University of Minnesota Morris men's swimming & diving team returned to action on Friday night with a dual meet at Augustana University. Back in the water for a competition for the first time in nearly two months, the Cougars were dealt a 180-54 defeat by the NCAA Division II Vikings.

The night began with the 200 Medley Relay in which the team of John Gulon, Jakob Linscheid, Max Lundgren, and Louis Freeman combined for a time of 1:48.16. Gulon would later have the biggest moment of the night for the Cougars with a school record and event victory in the 100 Freestyle with a time of 48.90. 

The Cougars had a few other top-two and top-three finishes on the night. Runner-up showings came from Freeman in the 50 Freestyle (24.38) and 200 Freestyle (2:08.82), Gulon in the 100 Backstroke (56.14), John Slatinski in the 200 Backstroke (2:23.84), Linscheid in the 200 Breaststroke (2:45.38), Josh Meixell in the 500 Freestyle (5:50.88), and Lundgren in the 100 Butterfly (1:04.21). Finishing in third place in their events were Slatinski in the 1000 Freestyle (11:28.36) and Meixell in the 50 Freestyle (24.46). 

Competing in 1-Meter Diving, Gregory Simons completed 11 dives and registered a score of 258.10. 

The night closed with the 200 Freestyle Relay and a fourth-place finish from Gulon, Meixell, Slatinski, and Freeman in 1:35.20.

Minnesota Morris concludes the weekend with a meet tomorrow afternoon in Sioux City, Iowa against Morningside University beginning at 12 p.m.
