Box Score MORRIS, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Morris women's basketball team eased to a 79-50 win over Trinity Bible College on Tuesday night, improving to 10-8 on the season as the Cougars picked up the victory in their final non-conference game of the regular season.
It was a wire-to-wire win for Minnesota Morris, with the Cougars not allowing a point to the Lions for nearly seven minutes to open the contest and starting out with a 9-0 lead. A couple late baskets drew Trinity Bible to within four, 14-10, at the end of the first quarter, but the Lions would get no closer.
The Cougars took complete control in the second quarter, outscoring Trinity Bible by a count of 26-12. An
Alice Wilkinson three-point play gave Minnesota Morris its first double-digit lead at 23-13 and it would grow from there. By the half, the cushion had been extended to 40-22.
Trinity Bible fought to stay within range in the third quarter, but
Grace Perry and
Maddy Grove knocked down triples to close the quarter on a 6-0 run and make it 60-38. Grove and
Malory Anderson took over the scoring load early on in the fourth quarter to make sure the Lions had no chance of a comeback.
Five players finished in double-figures for Minnesota Morris, led by Grove's 22.
Claire Stark had 12 and Perry added 11. Anderson notched a double-double with 10 points and 17 rebounds, while
Shelby Mortenson had 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Reece Wassink added eight points off the bench.
Minnesota Morris resumes UMAC play on Saturday and wraps up a six-game home stand with a 1 p.m. tip against Crown College.
