ST. PAUL, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Morris men's swimming & diving team had an exciting day on Saturday to wrap up the regular season at the Hamline Invite. The Cougars finished third in the four-team meet by racking up 363 points and topping the Pipers, but the team also totaled five new school records as they head into their first Liberal Arts Championships.
The day began with a third-place finish for the 'A' team of
John Gulon,
Jakob Linscheid,
Max Lundgren, and
Louis Freeman in the 400 Medley Relay with a time of 4:00.26.
Josh Meixell then had the first lowering of a PR on the day in the 500 Freestyle, turning in a time of 5:50.10.
The first new school record came from
John Slatinski in the 200 IM, finishing fifth with a record-setting time of 2:18.47 for the Cougars. Linscheid was one spot back with a 2:23.88.
Linscheid had the first of two new school records in the 100 Breaststroke with a fourth-place finish of 1:10.63. He'd later add another in the 200 Breaststroke, placing second in 2:41.45.
Gulon didn't break his school record in the 100 Backstroke, but he did win the six-man event with a time of 54.74. Gulon would get a new record later in the day, however, clocking a 1:50.79 that was good for third in the 200 Freestyle. He would also add the top time for the Cougars in the 100 Butterfly, taking eighth in 59.62.
Freeman had the top times for Minnesota Morris in a pair of sprint events, finishing eighth in the 100 Freestyle (53.34) and sixth in the 50 Freestyle (23.95).
The final school record came from
Gregory Simons on the 3-meter boards. The Cougar diver totaled a score of 163.20 in that event and 183.40 on the 1-meter boards to place second in each event.
The meet wrapped up with the 200 Freestyle Relay. The UMN Morris 'A' team of Gulon,
Nathan Fronk, Meixell, and Freeman were fifth in 1:36.15, while the 'B' team of Linscheid, Lundgren, Slatinski, and Simons were ninth in 1:45.66.
Minnesota Morris will be in action next at the Liberal Arts Championships from Feb. 14-17 in Hobart, Ind. The meet begins on Feb. 14 with an evening session starting at 5:30 p.m.
