Update the Cougar Pool Record Book!

MORRIS, Minn. - The University of Minnesota Morris Swimming and Diving team hosted Iowa Lakes Community College for their second home meet of the season. The Cougars dominated, earning an 83-18 victory over the Lakers. 

The meet kicked off with the 200 yard medley relay, where the team of Ryllie Wendt, Kaitlyn Mello, Faith Hamm, and Shannon Dougherty swam a time of 2:04.95. The second event in the pool, the 1650 yard freestyle, saw McKenna Falak swimming a time of 18:52.06 to break the Cougar Pool record of 18:52.13 held since 2010. Dougherty, swimming a time of 31.84, was the winner of the 50 yard backstroke. Event nine of the day was the 50 yard breaststroke, won by Mello with a time of 36.13 with Hamm coming second (36.19) just behind her teammate. Samantha Haaf was the winner of the 100 yard butterfly, coming in with a time of 1:08.55. Lilly Radintz found a first place finish in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 25.75. Brynna York wrapped up the first half of the meet with a score of 179.40 in the one meter diving. 

Dougherty earned another first place finish on the day with a 58.70 finish in the 100 yard freestyle. Continuing with the 100 yard races, Natalie West finished the backstroke in 1:12.98 while Falak earned a 1:17.40 in the breaststroke. Radintz took her second first place finish for the Cougars in the 50 yard butterfly, swimming a time of 28.31. York totaled up 170.10 points off the 3 meter board in her second series of dives on the day. The second record breaking performance for Minnesota Morris came from the 800 yard freestyle relay of Radintz, Falak, Hamm, and Dougherty. The team swam a time of 8:32.64 to overtake the previously held record in Cougar Pool.

The Cougars will take a break from competing until the New Year, and will host Hamline University Jan. 17 for a 5 pm meet.
