Six School Records for Men’s Swimming & Diving on Second Day of LACs

Two relays and four individuals set new school records on Thursday at the Liberal Arts Championships.

HOBART, Ind. – The University of Minnesota Morris men's swimming & diving team set six school records on the second day of the Liberal Arts Championships. Through seven events, the Cougars are in third place with 96.5 points, trailing St. Ambrose University (266) and Illinois Institute of Technology (177), but ahead of Asbury University (78.5) and Williams Baptist University (44).

During morning prelims, three individuals advanced to finals. John Gulon went into the 'A' final of the 50 Freestyle with a 21.43. In the 500 Freestyle, John Slatinski (5:17.81) and Josh Meixell (5:44.46) each moved into the consolation final. Minnesota Morris also had a school record from Jakob Linscheid in the 200 IM in the prelims as he turned in a 2:16.20.

The evening began with the 200 Freestyle Relay and the Cougar team of Louis Freeman, Josh Meixell, Slatinski, and Gulon immediately led off with a school record of 1:31.99 to take third.

Moving into individual events, Slatinski dropped his time in the 500 Free to 5:12.32 to finish in 10th place, while Meixell recorded a 5:46.17 to take 12th.

In the 50 Freestyle 'A' final, Gulon set a school record and tied for fifth place with a time of 21.32 seconds. 

Prior to the final relay of the night, divers took center stage and Gregory Simons nearly took home a title before settling for second with a school-record score of 360.60 points over 11 dives.

In the final event of the night, the 400 Medley Relay team managed to have two school records in one race. Gulon led off with a time of 52.37 in the 100 Backstroke for the first record, before Linscheid, Max Lundgren, and Nathan Fronk joined him in compiling a 3:49.80 for a new record in the relay.

Day three of the LACs gets going again tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. with prelims in the 400 IM, 100 Butterfly, 200 Freestyle, 100 Breaststroke, and 100 Backstroke. The finals of those events as well as the 200 Medley Relay will begin tomorrow evening at 5:30 p.m.
