Men’s Swimming & Diving Maintains Third at LACs

The Cougars hold a 16-point lead for third place on Asbury University going into the final day of the Liberal Arts Championships.

HOBART, Ind. – The University of Minnesota Morris men's swimming & diving team held onto a narrow margin for third place over Asbury University on the third day of the Liberal Arts Championships. St. Ambrose University has a healthy lead on the field with 500 points, with Illinois Institute of Technology in second with 342 points. Trailing behind the Cougars and their 165.5 points is Asbury with 149.5 points. Williams Baptist University is in fifth with 74 points.

In the morning session, Minnesota Morris had seven swimmers advance into finals. Louis Freeman (200 Freestyle) and John Gulon (100 Backstroke) went into 'A' finals, while John Slatinski (400 IM), Nathan Fronk (200 Freestyle), and the trio of Fronk, Jakob Linscheid, and Josh Meixell (100 Breaststroke) went into consolation finals. During those prelims, Gulon set a new school record of 50.97 in the 100 Back, as did Slatinski in the 400 IM (4:43.23).

Coming back in the evening, Slatinski led off with an eighth-place finish in the 400 IM, touching the wall in 4:46.92. Freeman finished sixth in the 200 Free in 1:59.03, while Fronk was eighth in 2:02.33. The 100 Breast saw Linscheid finish in a school-record time of 1:04.82 to place seventh, while Fronk was eighth in 1:08.63 and Meixell was ninth in 1:09.90. The final individual swim of the night was the 100 Back, with Gulon taking third in 51.32.

The 200 Medley Relay closed out the third night of action at the LACs. That race featured a fourth-place finish of 1:47.17 from the team of Slatinski, Linscheid, Max Lundgren, and Freeman.

The final day of the LACs starts with prelims in the 200 Backstroke, 100 Freestyle, 200 Breaststroke, and the 200 Butterfly at 10 a.m. before the night session begins at 5:30 p.m. with the 1650 Freestyle.
