Gauntlet Continues for Women’s Tennis at Morningside

The early-season schedule didn’t provide a letup as the Cougars fell at Morningside University on Saturday, 6-1.

Box Score SIOUX CITY, Iowa – The University of Minnesota Morris women's tennis team continued its brutal opening stretch of matches on Saturday with a 6-1 loss to Morningside University.

The Mustangs took a 1-0 lead in doubles after recording 6-2 wins at Nos. 1 (Kiley Rodarmel/Allison Bruhn) and 2 (Valerie Gall/Marybeth Tautges). At No. 3, Kristen Muller and Mariah Mireles lost, 0-6.

Morningside proceeded to take five out of six singles matches, with Bruhn providing Minnesota Morris with a point at No. 3. Bruhn gutted out a 6-4, 4-6, 13-11 victory on the afternoon. Rodarmel lost her No. 1 match, 2-6, 1-6. Gall was defeated at No. 2, 0-6, 1-6. Tautges was held at love in No. 4 singles. Muller put up a big fight at No. 5 but was knocked off, 5-7, 4-6. At No. 6, Ava Weber took a 2-6, 0-6 loss.

Minnesota Morris travels to Nebraska next weekend for matches on Feb. 24 and 25. First up is the College of Saint Mary, with that match set for a 6 p.m. start in Omaha.
