DULUTH, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Morris women's tennis team dropped its final match of the 2024 season to the University of Wisconsin-Superior on Saturday by a score of 8-1.
UW-Superior took a 3-0 lead out of the gates, sweeping the three doubles matches. The first match to conclude was at No. 1 where the Minnesota Morris duo of
Kiley Rodarmel and
Allison Bruhn fell by a score of 8-1. The Yellowjackets made it 2-0 with an 8-3 win at No. 3 doubles over
Ava Weber and
Mariah Mireles. Finally, at No. 2 doubles, the team of
Valerie Gall and
Marybeth Tautges came up a little short in an 8-4 defeat.
The victory for the Yellowjackets was clinched with wins at Nos. 2 and 4 singles. In the No. 2 match, Gall suffered a 0-6, 2-6 defeat, while
Katharine Kelm was held at love, 0-6, 0-6 at No. 4. The next match was finish was a marathon between Rodarmel and Maya Haupt at No. 1, with Haupt eking out a 4-6, 6-3, 10-8 win over the Cougar senior.
The lone point of the afternoon for Minnesota Morris came from Bruhn at No. 3 singles where she ground out a 6-4, 1-6, 11-9 victory over Giulia Barros. UW-Superior claimed the final two matches with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Weber at No. 6 and a 6-3, 6-3 win over Tautges at No. 5.
Minnesota Morris concludes the season with an overall record of 3-11 and a 2-3 mark in the UMAC North Division.
