ASHLAND, Wis. - The University of Minnesota Morris women's basketball team traveled to Ashland, Wis. for their second conference matchup of the season against Northland College. The Cougars recorded a victory and move to 1-1 in UMAC play.
The Cougars came out of the gate ready to roll in their second game of UMAC competition. Posting a team total of 21 points in the first quarter, Minnesota Morris established their lead early and didn't look back, maintaining a steady stream of scoring for all four quarters. The Lumberjills struggled against the team's stifling defense, forcing turnovers that led to quick transition points for the Cougars. Minnesota Morris came away from the day with an 82-19 victory over their opponent.
Maddy Grove led the Cougars in scoring, posting 21 points on the day and grabbing five rebounds. Claire Stark dropped 13 of her own points and also added five rebounds. Anna Myers came off the bench for Minnesota Morris and earned 11 points and three steals to add to her stat line on the day.
The Cougars will continue to defend their UMAC Tournament Championship with a road game Jan. 15 against North Central University (7:15 pm).
