MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The University of Minnesota Morris men's basketball team faced off against North Central, looking to remain undefeated in UMAC play. Unfortunately, the Cougars were unable to come away with a win after a 19-38 second half gave the Rams a commanding lead to end the game.
Carvin Fish, the leading scorer of the night for Minnesota Morris, got things rolling with a dunk for the Cougars. Gustav Gunderson splashed a triple, which Fish followed up with a jumper to give Minnesota Morris their first lead of the game (7-6). The Rams and the Cougars, evenly matched, traded points for the rest of the first half. The largest lead for either of the two teams came on a fastbreak layup from the Rams to put them up four over Minnesota Morris, a lead that was quickly squashed by Dom Aguilar with a three. Battling to the end of the half, North Central made a three point play with three seconds left to take a 40-37 lead at the buzzer.
The Rams went on an 11-2 run to kick off the second half, leaving the Cougars stunned and unable to find a response. North Central found a 24 points lead with seven minutes to go in the game and maintained their lead to leave Minnesota Morris trailing by 22 points (56-78) at the final buzzer.
Fish came away from the night with 16 points and five rebounds for the Cougars, adding two blocks to his stat line. Jase Nelson went 6-9 from the field as he totaled up 13 points. Aguilar was the third Cougar in double digits on the night, earning himself 12 points.Â
