Women’s Swimming & Diving Heat Up in Preparation for the Liberal Arts Championship

SIOUX CITY, I.A. - The University of Minnesota Morris women's swimming & diving team earned an impressive 141-41 win over Morningside College in their last regular-season competition. The Cougars will look to carry that success over to the Liberal Arts Championships Feb. 12-15 in Racine, Wis. 

The Cougars kicked off their day of success with a 2:04.93 first place finish in the 200 yard medley relay from the 'A' team of Shannon Dougherty, Kaitlyn Mello, Faith Hamm, and Eve Zimmerman. Makenna Falak kept the first place scoring going in the 1000 yard freestyle with an 11:41.06 finish. Minnesota Morris earned the top three finishes in the 200 yard freestyle from Dougherty (1:39.96), Kennedy Olson (1:46.65), and Natalie West (1:54.78). Lilly Radintz took over in the 50 yard freestyle, finishing first with a 26.48 while Zimmerman finished third with a time of 27.25. Hamm (2:35.06) and Abby Doyle (2:46.95) finished second and third respectively in the 200 yard IM for the Cougars. 

The women kicked off the second half of the meet with the top three finishes in the 100 yard butterfly from Samantha Haaf (1:06.84), Hamm (1:11.18), and Brynn Saarion (1:13.07). Radintz (56.76) and Dougherty (58.50) earned first and second place in the 100 yard freestyle, continuing to rack up points for the Cougars. The 100 yard backstroke featured two top three finishes for Minnesota Morris from Falak (1:07.32) and West (1:14.19), who took second and third respectively. Olson earned a commanding first place finish in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:52.91, while Doyle finished third and swam a time of 6:27.46. The 100 yard freestyle boasted all Cougars in the top three; Mello (1:20.26), Rita Erickson (1:26.07), and Riley Simpson (1:27.95). Women's swimming & diving wrapped up the day with a first place finish from team 'A' in the 200 yard freestyle. The team of Radintz, Falak, Zimmerman, and Olson swam a collective time of 1:46.34 to seal their victory.
