ELLENDALE, Minn. - The University of Minnesota Morris women's basketball team traveled to the Trinity Bible College Lions for a non-conference matchup. The Cougars came away from the night with a 74-29 victory, advancing to 4-10 overall on the season. Minnesota Morris will return to UMAC contests in a home game against Crown College Jan. 22 at 7:15 pm.
The first quarter of the night featured a close matchup, with the Lions taking their only lead of the night at the three minute mark and getting up 12-11. The Cougars ran away with the rest of the quarter, going on a 12-0 run to end the first quarter 23-12 over Trinity Bible. Minnesota Morris hit their stride in the second quarter of the matchup, outscoring the Lions 15-5 and taking a 38-17 lead heading into halftime. The Cougars' tough defense allowed just six points for Trinity Bible in the third and fourth quarters of the game while scoring 36 points of their own to finish the game with a dominant 45 scoring gap.
Minnesota Morris was led in points by Savanna Pelzer who dropped 18 on the night. Itzel Salazar and Claire Stark each earned 11 points for the Cougars, while Taylor Johnson came off the bench for Minnesota Morris and nabbed six rebounds.
