SUPERIOR, Wis. - The University of Minnesota Morris men's basketball team took on the University of Wisconsin in a competitive conference matchup. The Cougars outscored their opponent in overtime to finish the day with a 76-71 victory.Â
After Dom Aguilar and Pal Dak gave the Cougars an early 6-0 edge on Wisconsin-Superior, the Yellowjackets went on an 8-2 scoring run to tie things up at 8-8 with 12:44 to go in the first half. The two competitive teams traded the lead back and forth in an attempt to maintain a comfortable gap. However, no such gap would come and a tip in layup from Thomas Tiernan tied up the score at 28-28 just seconds before the halftime buzzer.Â
The Cougars were the first to find a double-digit lead of 54-43 in the matchup as Dak splashed a three and followed it up with a layup. A made jumper from Dak pushed the lead to 12 points with 8:44 to go in the game. Minnesota Morris stayed in the lead despite the Yellowjackets' attempts to battle their way back. Dak hit a shot from the charity stripe to keep a three point lead but a last second made three pointer from Wisconsin-Superior tied the game up and forced an overtime. The Cougars outscored their opponent 9-4 in the five minute overtime, securing the road victory and advancing to 4-2 in UMAC play.
Dak dropped 28 points and had six rebounds on the day. Carvin Fish led the team with eight rebounds and added 11 points for Minnesota Morris. Gustav Gunderson was the last Cougar in double-digits with ten points in the day.
