Swim and Dive Continues Road Trip to Hamline for Saturday Meet

MORRIS, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Morris men's and women's swim and dive teams continue their road trip to Hamline University for a 1 p.m., meet in St. Paul, Minn.

Last week, the Cougars competed in two meets in Nebraska against Nebraska Wesleyan University and Midland University. The women's team earned its first win of the season, defeating Midland, 178–67.

Some highlights from the weekend on the women's side included the 200-yard medley relay team of Lucia Rainbow, Danielle Mazzio, Brynn Saarion, and Rylie Wendt, which won the opening event in the meet against Midland. Natalie West and Sam Haaf also picked up first-place finishes for the Cougars, while Brynna York recorded another top finish in the one-meter dive. To close out the victory, McKenna Falak, Faith Hamm, Kennedy Olson, and Shannon Dougherty won the 400-yard freestyle relay.

The men fell to Midland but still delivered strong performances. John Gulon earned a second-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle early in the meet, and Jakob Linscheid placed third in the 100-yard breaststroke. Riley McKenzie secured the men's lone event win with a top finish in the one-meter dive. To finish the meet, Ben Caron, Dillon Thorstad, Austin Dunn, and Gulon placed second in the 400-yard freestyle relay.

This marks the second time the Cougars will compete against Hamline this season, but their first meeting in a dual. Earlier this year, Minnesota Morris finished ahead of the Pipers on both the men's and women's sides at the CSB/SJU Fall Invite.

Last season, the Cougar women defeated Hamline, 152–57. West opened the meet with a win in the 1000-yard freestyle. Haaf added another victory in the 200-yard butterfly, and Falak finished first in the 500-yard freestyle.

On the men's side last season, UMM defeated Hamline, 137–71, at home. Marc Meece led the Cougars with a victory in the 1000-yard freestyle, while Thorstad and Gulon each added event wins to help secure the team score.
