Women’s Basketball Continues Busy Start to the Season with Two More Games to Close Out the Week

MORRIS, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Morris women's basketball team continues its busy start to the season with two more games this week, beginning with a road matchup at Concordia College (Minn.) at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, followed by a 7 p.m. tipoff against St. Catherine University on Saturday at home on James Gremmels Court.

The Cougars opened the season 1-2, playing three games over the first four days. At the CSB Tournament, Maddy Grove led the team with a combined 25 points and was named to the All-Tournament Team. The Cougars then rallied from 12 down to defeat Macalester College, 76-62. Grove totaled 21 points to lead UMM, while Brook Ver Steeg came off the bench to score 18.
 
Early in the season, Grove leads the team with 46 points, averaging 15.3 per game. Ver Steeg follows with 35 points (11.7 ppg), and Anna Myers rounds out the top three with 26 points (8.7 ppg). Gianna Klarenbeek leads the team with eight assists, followed by Grace Perry with five.
 
Defensively, Klarenbeek and Claire Stark lead the Cougars on the boards with 18 and 15 rebounds, respectively. Perry has a team-high 10 steals, including five in the win over Macalester. Stark leads UMM in blocks with two.
 
Concordia opens its season against the Cougars on Wednesday. The Cobbers finished 16-10 overall and 15-10 in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference last year. Head coach Kim Wagers enters her seventh season at CC. Concordia lost its top four scorers from the 2024-25 season; Alexa Snesrud, who scored 138 points, was fifth on the team.
 
St. Catherine has started its season 2-0, defeating the University of Wisconsin–Superior, 78-59, and Macalester, 68-49. Head coach Don Mulhern enters his eighth season with the Wildcats. Hattie Fox and Jordyn Peed lead the team in scoring with 39 points each (19.5 ppg) and also share the team lead in rebounds with 11 apiece.
