"This was a tough stretch of seven games in 12 days to start the season," said head coach Tim Grove. "Happy with how we came out and played well defensively, leading to early offensive opportunities. And congrats to Mads on achieving 1,000 career points! I've had the best seat in the house to watch her and her teammates play."

The Lions opened the game with the first four points, but Gianna Klarenbeek knocked down a deep shot for the Cougars' first points. Claire Stark made both free throws to give UMM its first lead of the game, and Grove extended the lead with a mid-range jumper. The Lions tied the game at 8-8 midway through the first quarter and then took the lead off a turnover. Down the stretch, the Cougars kept pace at the free-throw line. In the final two minutes, Grove hit a deep two to surpass 1,000 career points. She made the next two shots to swing the lead back to Minnesota Morris. A late three-pointer by the Lions cut the Cougar lead to 18-17 at the end of the first quarter.

Grace Perry opened the second quarter with a three-pointer to spark a 15-0 run. Klarenbeek followed with a three-point play to widen the lead, and Perry added another three-pointer. Anna Myers halted a Lions run with a strong drive to the hoop, then knocked down a three-pointer to push the lead to 14. Grove closed the first-half scoring to send the Cougars into the break up 44-26.

On the opening possession of the second half, Itzel Salazar connected on a jumper from the free-throw line. Grove stretched the lead to 22 with a pair of free throws. Myers continued the Cougars' strong third-quarter performance with another three-pointer. Reece Wassink scored her first points of the game off a pass from Salazar. Grove converted two transition layups, and Klarenbeek added a three-pointer to give UMM a 78-34 lead at the end of the quarter.

Savannah Petersen drove in for her first points of the game. McKenna McIlonie knocked down a pair of free throws to become the 14th Cougar to score. Johnson hit a free throw to bring the Cougars to 100 points, and UMM closed out the win, 100-49.

Grove led the Cougars with 28 points in the victory. Thirteen other Cougars scored in the win, with Myers adding 14 and Klarenbeek scoring 10.
