The Cougars have had a busy start to the season, playing seven games in the first 14 days of the regular season. In their most recent matchup, UMM defeated Trinity Bible College, 100–49, on Tuesday. In the first quarter,
Maddy Grove surpassed 1,000 career points and finished the game with 28.
Gianna Klarenbeek also had a strong outing with 12 points, seven assists, and six rebounds.
Grove leads the Cougars in scoring with 137 total points, averaging 19.6 per game. Earlier this week, she was named the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference Player of the Week.
Anna Myers and
Brooke Ver Steeg follow with 67 and 52 points, respectively. Myers leads the team with 11 three-pointers while shooting .407 from behind the arc. Klarenbeek leads the team in assists with 26.
Defensively, Klarenbeek has a team-high 38 rebounds, with
Claire Stark close behind at 30. Grove and
Grace Perry pace the team in steals with 19 and 14, respectively. Stark leads UMM with seven blocks, followed by
Shelby Mortenson with four.
In the D3hoops.com preseason poll, UW–River Falls received votes. The Falcons enter the weekend 2–3. UWRF opened the season with a 59–43 win over No. 18 Calvin University but fell in their most recent game to (RV) Gustavus Adolphus, 55–52. Shelby Lyman is in her third season as head coach of the Falcons. Olivia Hoerl leads the team in scoring with 60 points, followed by Zoey Buchan with 57. Hoerl also leads the team on the boards with 36 rebounds.
