Cougars Continue Road Action, Then Return Home on Monday

MORRIS, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Morris women's basketball team continues its road trip as they travel to the University of Wisconsin–Eau Claire on Saturday for a 2 p.m. tip, before returning home on Monday for a 5:30 p.m. matchup against Concordia College (Minn.).

In their most recent game, the Cougars narrowly fell to (RV) University of Wisconsin–River Falls, 60-52, on the road. Shelby Mortenson led the Cougars with 20 points, setting a new personal record. The Cougars played three games last week, with Maddy Grove scoring 55 points to earn Upper Midwest Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors for the second consecutive week.
 
Grove has scored 147 points so far this season, averaging 18.4 points per game. Following her are Anna Myers and Mortenson with 69 and 64 points, respectively. Gianna Klarenbeek leads the team in both rebounds (43) and assists (30). Claire Stark has a team-high eight blocks.
 
UW–Eau Claire has started the season 5-1 and is currently on a four-game winning streak. Earlier this week, the Blugolds defeated St. Norbert College, 70-63. In the win, four athletes reached double figures for UW–Eau Claire. Tonja Englund is in her 26th season as head coach of the Blugolds. Kyla Overskei leads the team in scoring with 131 points (21.8 per game), and Delaney Nyenhuis leads the defense with 62 rebounds.
 
In the most recent D3hoops.com poll, Concordia received votes for the top 25. The Cobbers started the season 4-1, dropping their most recent game, 52-44, to Bethel University on Tuesday. Kim Wagers enters her seventh season as head coach. The leading scorer for Concordia is Maya Metcalf with 56 points, while Molly Musland follows with 50.
