MORRIS, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Morris women's basketball team returns to action after the holiday break, competing in the BSN Winter Classic on Dec. 28 and 29. The Cougars open play against host No. 3 University of Wisconsin–Oshkosh and follow with a matchup against (RV) Ripon College.

Before the break, the Cougars defeated Trinity Bible College 80–48 on Dec. 8.
Maddy Grove led the scoring with 21 points, while
Shelby Mortenson and
Anna Myers reached double figures with 14 and 11 points, respectively.
Gianna Klarenbeek led the team in rebounds with seven, and Grove posted a career-high seven steals.
This season, Grove is averaging 19.5 points per game, ranking second in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC). Mortenson has reached 100 points on the season, and Myers rounds out the top three with 91. Klarenbeek leads the team with 40 assists, followed by
Itzel Salazar with 22.
On the defensive end, Mortenson leads the team with 62 rebounds, while Klarenbeek and
Grace Perry follow with 53 and 45, respectively. Grove ranks second in the conference with 33 steals, and
Claire Stark is third in the UMAC with nine blocks.
In the most recent D3hoops.com poll, UW–Oshkosh is ranked third and received one first-place vote. The Titans are 9–0 this season and have won their games by an average of 22.3 points. In their most recent contests, they defeated (RV) Coe College 53–46 and Edgewood University 78–42. UW–Oshkosh is coached by Brad Fischer, who is in his 14th season. Paige Seckar leads the Titans with 112 points and also tops the team with 65 rebounds.
Ripon College also received votes in the latest D3hoops.com poll. The Red Hawks enter the tournament with a 9–2 record after defeating Lake Forest College 76–47 on Dec. 19. Head coach Lauren Busalacchi is in her 13th season. Laney Havlovitz leads the team in scoring at 14.9 points per game, while four other Red Hawks are also averaging double figures: Halle Van Horn, Natalie Rauwolf, Sophie Schlieve, and Karsyn Nelson.
