SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The University of Minnesota Morris men's swim and dive team finished second at the three-day Augie Invite, held Dec. 4–6 in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Day 2
To start day two,
Riley McKenzie and
Carson Jensen finished second and third, respectively, in the one-meter dive. The team of
Ethan Bad Heart Bull,
Sam Oster,
Ben Caron, and
Dillon Thorstad followed with a sixth-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay.
John Gulon added a ninth-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly, while
Austin Dunn and Marc Meece placed third and fourth, respectively, in the 400-yard IM.
Thorstad recorded another top finish for UMM, placing ninth in the 100-yard breaststroke. Caron finished third in the 200-yard freestyle, and
Riley McRoberts added to the team score with a sixth-place result. To close out the day,
Elijah Slinden posted the top Cougar finish in the 100-yard backstroke.
Day 3
To kick off the final day of competition, UMM placed fourth in the 800-yard freestyle relay with a team of Oster, Caron, Dunn, and Gulon. Jensen qualified for the finals in the three-meter dive after finishing second in the preliminaries and went on to take second again in the finals. In the 1650-yard freestyle, Bad Heart Bull and Slinden placed fifth and sixth, respectively.
Gulon earned a podium finish in the 200-yard backstroke, with Dunn following in fourth. In the 100-yard IM preliminaries, Oster set a program record, then broke it again in the final, winning the event with a time of 56.80. Gulon continued to rank highly among Division II athletes, finishing fifth in the 100-yard freestyle. McRoberts led UMM in the 200-yard butterfly with a seventh-place finish. To close out the meet, the Cougars placed third in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a team of Caron, Thorstad, Dunn, and Gulon, securing second place overall.
The Cougars are back in action on January 10 as they compete at Morningside University.
