Women’s Swimming & Diving Takes Third at Liberal Arts Championships

RACINE, Wis. - The University of Minnesota Morris women's swimming and diving team finished up the Liberal Arts Championships with a third place team finish overall amidst a day of record breaking and trips to the medal stand.

McKenna Falak, a stand-out freshman for the Cougars, kicked off the scoring on the day with an incredible third place finish in the 1650 Yard Freestyle with a time of 18:36.58. Her time also secures the school record, Falak's second individual record breaking performance of the meet.

Making another appearance on the podium for Minnesota Morris, Shannon Dougherty finished fifth in the 100 Yard Freestyle with a commanding time of 54.99 in the race. Kaitlyn Mello was the next Cougar to make the trip to the medal stand with a sixth place finish in the 200 Yard Breaststroke. Mello swam a time of 2:40.15 in the finals to secure her position. Samantha Haaf and Kennedy Olson rounded out the Cougars' individual trips to the podium with second and sixth place finishes respectively in the 200 Yard Butterfly. Haaf dominated the field with a time of 2:24.78, with Olson coming in just behind her teammate with a final time of 2:32.57. 

In an incredible come-from-behind race for the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay, the team of Lilly Radintz, Faith Hamm, Falak, and Dougherty made the trip to the medal stand to collect their third place medals. The relay swam a collective time of 3:41.58, finishing just over a send ahead of the fourth place team.

Minnesota Morris women's swimming & diving team also earned impressive accolades in the post-meet awards ceremony. Brynna York was awarded the title of "Diver of the Meet" for her performances both off the 1 Meter and 3 Meter boards. Head Coach Dave Molesworth took home "Women's Diving Coach of the Meet" accolades for York's performance. The team came together for an impressive 374 points at the conclusion of all the events to take home third place.
