SUPERIOR, Wis. - The University of Minnesota Morris men's track & field team have seen their training pay off at the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference Indoor Championships. The Cougars came away from the first day of competition with six top-ten performances and multiple personal records and season bests.
Izayah Boss kicked things off for Minnesota Morris with a second place finish in the 60m Prelims. His 7.05 performance earned him a place in the finals tomorrow. Sam Gifford kept the momentum rolling for the Cougars with a fifth place finish in the 400m run. Gifford's time of 52.77 places him in the school record book as a top-ten performance in program history.
Evan Barnett cleared 1.83m (6-00.00) in the High Jump to take fifth place and earn a season best. Conor Thornbrugh threw a toss of 14.00m (45-11.25) to finish in fourth place in the Weight Throw while Gregory Ohman finished in ninth with a throw of 12.65m (41-06.00).
The Men's Distance Medley of Tyler Franke, Brett Bartkowicz, Azariah Zappetta, and Christopher Tveitbakk ran a collective time of 11:57.16 to finish in fourth.
Action continues for track & field tomorrow (Mar. 1) on Day 2 of the UMAC Indoor Championship. Events are scheduled to start at 1:30 pm in Superior, Wis.
