Women’s Track & Field Within Striking Distance After Day One of UMAC Championship

SUPERIOR, Wis. - The University of Minnesota Morris women's track & field team finished day one at the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference Indoor Championship in sixth place but within striking distance of their competition. The Cougars marked eight top-ten finishes on the day.

Nibras Luqman jump started the day by taking eighth in the 60m Prelims with a time of 8.62. Her time sends her to the finals, which she will run on day two of competition. 

The field events is where Minnesota Morris found their points, starting with a fourth place finish from Lindsey Hause. She cleared 1.37m (4-06.00) in the high jump. Finishing in second, third, and fourth in the Weight Throw, Amaya Willis, Kylie Elmes, and Siri Overturf scored big for the Cougars. Willis earned a top-ten school record with a toss of 14.12m (46-04.00) while Elmes marked a throw of 13.59m (44-07.00) and Overturf finished with a toss of 12.90m (42-04.00). Kat Placido finished tenth in Weight Throw with a personal record of 11.45m (37-06.75). 

Both relays on the day recorded sixth place finishes. The 4x200m relay of Paige Diekmann, Sydney Roy, April Knight, and Luqman finished with a collective time of 1:58.75. In the distance medley Abby Hachmeister, Lindsey Hause, Elizabeth Frias, and Zoe Hoaglund finished with a time of 15:13.73. 

Action continues for track & field tomorrow (Mar. 1) on Day 2 of the UMAC Indoor Championship. Events are scheduled to start at 1:30 pm in Superior, Wis.
