NORTHFIELD, Minn. - The University of Minnesota Morris track & field teams headed out to Carleton College to compete against some tough Division III competition. The men came out of the day with a fifth place finish, with all the scoring coming from five men in multiple events.
Earning top finishes in running events for Minnesota Morris, Sam Gifford recorded a time of 53.20 in the 400m run to take eighth place in the event while Azariah Zappetta marked 2:11.79 in the 800m to finish in sixth place. Both Gifford and Zappetta earned personal records in their respective races.
Evan Barnett was the lone jumper to score for the Cougars with a third place finish in the high jump. He had a lead of 1.78m (5-10.00) on the day, coming just shy of his season best.
The throwers put on a show for Minnesota Morris, earning top ten finishes in both the shot put and weight throw. Gregory Ohman marked a toss of 11.92m (39-01.25) to take sixth in the shot put, while Kincade Eisenbacher finished ninth with a throw of 10.45m (34-03.50). Conor Thornbrugh earned a third place finish in the weight throw, marking 12.64m (41-05.75) on the day. Ohman finished just behind his teammate, throwing 12.62m (41-05.00) to take fourth place.
The 4x400m relay of Gifford, Zappetta, Christopher Tveitbakk, and Noah Johnson took seventh place while running a collective time of 4:01.72.
The Cougars will head back to Collegeville, Minn. to compete at Saint John's University on Feb. 15.
