MORRIS, Minn. - The University of Minnesota Morris honored three senior student-athletes following their 6-1 victory over Crown College.
Valerie Gall,
Marybeth Tautges, and
Ava Weber have each played four seasons with the Cougars and will graduate this spring.
Minnesota Morris kicked things off with a sweep in doubles play as the No. 1 pairing defeated their opponent 6-0. The No. 2 pairing kept things going with a 6-3 win, and the No. 3 doubles team took a 6-1 victory.
Allison Bruhn and Gall made up the No. 1 pairing while
Minami Rikimaru and Tautges played at the No. 2 spot together. Weber and
Mariah Mireles made up the No. 3 pairing on the day.
The Cougars' win streak continued in singles play as Gall (No. 1) defeated her opponent in sets of 6-2, 6-1. Bruhn (No. 2) earned a 6-4, 6-3 win after an intense matchup while Mireles (No. 3) easily defeated her opponent 6-1, 6-1. Playing at the No. 4 spot,
Kristen Muller made quick work of her opponent with sets of 6-1, 6-1 as Tautges (No. 5) won 6-3, 6-2. Weber (No. 6) was the only Cougar to fall on the day, taking her opponent to a tiebreaker set in a 3-6, 6-3, 7-10 match.
The Cougars' UMAC competition continues with a match this Sunday (Apr. 13) against the University of Wisconsin-Superior. The match is scheduled for a 1:30 pm start time in Morris, Minn.
