ST. PAUL, Minn. - The University of Minnesota Morris women's tennis team hit the road to take on the University of Northwestern in the team's final regular season UMAC matchup. Playing for a spot in the conference tournament, the Cougars fell 1-6 to the Eagles to bring their season to a close.
The Eagles kicked off the day by taking the doubles point, despite Minnesota Morris securing the No. 1 doubles match 7-5. The Cougars fell 2-6 in the Nos. 2 and 3 matches to concede the point.
Allison Bruhn and
Valerie Gall were the triumphant No. 1 pairing.
Minami Rikimaru and
Marybeth Tautges made up the No. 2 pairing while
Ava Weber and
Mariah Mireles played the No. 3 match.
The lone singles victory for the Cougars came from Bruhn (No. 1) as she defeated her opponent 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 to secure the point. Gall (No. 2) took a 3-6, 2-6 while Mireles (No. 3) kept things close in a match of 6-7, 6-7. At the No. 4 spot,
Kristen Muller fell 1-6, 2-6. Tautges (No. 5) and Weber (No. 6) fell in sets of 2-6, 2-6 and 2-6, 3-6 respectively.
