Track & Field Opens Outdoor Season at Hamline Invitational

ST. PAUL, Minn. - The University of Minnesota Morris men's and women's track and field teams faced off against a tough field of competition at the Hamline Invitational. The Cougars finished the day with multiple top-20 finishes, and an incredible showing from the women's throwers.

On the men's side, JT Garza finished in 18th place in the 100 Meter Dash with a time of 11.35 to jump to fourth in the UMAC rankings. Hayden Charboneau kept things going with a time of 17.15 in the 110 Meter Hurdles to secure 13th place. The 4x100 Meter Relay of Sam Gifford, Garza, Charboneau, and Bryson Drake ran a time of 42.90 to take second place overall and tie for third in the school record book, in addition to topping the UMAC rankings. The 4x400 team of Christopher Tveitbakk, Ethan Lauritsen, Noah Johnson, and Tyler Franke ran a collective time of 4:13.90 to take tenth. 

High Jumpers Evan Barnett and Mason Arens earned third and 11th on the day, jumping heights of 1.85m and 1.70m respectively. In the long jump, Arens took 12th place with a leap of 5.82m. Gregory Ohman took 13th in the Discus and 12th in the Hammer Throw on the day with tosses of 36.88m and 37.26m in the events. 

On the women's side for the Cougars, Eve Zimmerman raced a time of 19.45 in the 100 Meter Hurdles to take 18th place. Siri Overturf and Maggie Landwer earned eighth and 15th in the Pole Vault with vaults of 2.60m and 2.30m respectively. Julia Gorden Mercer kept things rolling with a jump of 3.90m in Long Jump to take 17th. 

Amaya Willis kicked things off for the women's throwers with a fifth place finish in the Discus with a toss of 34.88m to top the UMAC rankings. Overturf earned 14th in the Hammer while throwing 37.03m to rank second in the UMAC. Anna Briggs and Willis finished just behind their teammate with throws of 36.17m and 35.31m to take 18th and 20th overall. In the Javelin, Jordan Ohman-Bjork launched a throw of 34.60m to take second place on the day. Her throw also earned her eighth place in the school record book and third overall in the UMAC. Natalie Enright secured seventh in the Javelin with a toss of 26.24m while Paige Diekmann earned ninth place after a throw of 26.04m. 

The Cougars will keep things going at the Minnesota State Open hosted by Minnesota State University Mankato on Apr. 12.
