Cougars Within Striking Distance Heading Into Day Two

MORRIS, Minn. - Following day one of the UMAC Outdoor Championships, the University of Minnesota Morris sits in fourth place as a team. The Cougars' recorded 11 scoring performances on both the track and in field events, and look to improve their score tomorrow, Apr. 3.

Nibras Luqman kicked things off with a time of 13.19 in the 100m prelims to qualify for the finals tomorrow. She followed that up with a 27.42 in the 200m to take seventh place and continue scoring for the Cougars. The 4x800m Relay team of Elizabeth Frias, Lindsey Hause, Zoe Hoaglund, and Sylvia Pesch ran a time of 11:00.14 to take sixth.

The women throwers continued to outperform their competition, starting with the Hammer Throw. Siri Overturf (2nd), Kylie Elmes (4th), Kat Placido (5th), Jordan Ohman-Bjork (6th), Amaya Willis (7th), and Anna Briggs (8th) all secured points for the Cougars. Overturf launched a throw of 42.38m while Elmes made a toss of 39.09m. Placido threw 39.02m, Ohman-Bjork secured a distance of 39.01m, Willis had a toss of 38.81m, while Briggs' top throw was 37.38m. Ohman-Bjork secured a fourth place finish in the Javelin Throw as she launched a toss of 33.80m. 

Brynna York, Overturf, and Maggie Landwer kept the scoring going with second, fourth, and seventh place finishes in the Pole Vault. York climbed up to 2.75m, Overturf made a vault of 2.60m, while Landwer posted a season best of 2.45m.
