MORRIS, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Morris women's basketball team will play one game this week as it hosts Bethany Lutheran College for the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference Game of the Week on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.

Last week, the Cougars went 2-0 in conference play, improving to 4-1 and moving into second place in the UMAC. They opened the week with a 73-39 victory over Crown College, with
Maddy Grove and
Gianna Klarenbeek leading the scoring with 16 points apiece. In the following game, UMM topped the University of Wisconsin-Superior 59-48. Grove posted another top-scoring performance with 28 points, while defensively,
Shelby Mortenson recorded seven blocks—third most in program history.
This season, Grove leads the team with 336 points (18.7 per game), ranking second in the UMAC. Mortenson and Klarenbeek follow with 168 and 148 points, respectively.

Claire Stark, and
Grace Perry have also surpassed the 100-point mark this season. As a team, Minnesota Morris ranks second in the conference, averaging 67.7 points per game while shooting a conference-leading 40.3 percent from the field. Klarenbeek leads the conference with 55 assists.
Defensively, Mortenson paces the team with 117 rebounds, followed by Perry with 94. Of Mortenson's rebounds, 52 have come on the offensive glass. After last week's performance of 12 blocks, Mortenson now leads the conference with 26. The Cougars also lead the UMAC in both blocks and steals, with Grove ranking second in the conference with 51 steals.
Bethany Lutheran leads the UMAC with a 5-0 conference record and holds an overall record of 8-10. Last week, the Vikings extended their win streak to five games with victories over Martin Luther College (60-58) and North Central University (69-55). Emma Purfeerst is in her third season as head coach of the Vikings. Kenadi Arndt leads the team with 201 points, with Morgan Hulke close behind at 198. Defensively, Arinn McGee leads the team with 99 rebounds, followed by Arndt with 96.
