ST. PAUL, Minn. – Amaya Willis of the University of Minnesota Morris women's track and field team and
Grace Perry of the women's basketball team were named Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Athletes of the Week for the period of Feb. 2–8, as announced Tuesday, Feb. 10.
Willis represented the Cougars in the weight throw at the Gopher Classic to earn her second UMAC Field Athlete of the Week award. The sophomore thrower competed against Division I, II, and III athletes and finished 14th overall, defeating four Division II competitors. Willis currently holds the top mark in the UMAC, nearly a meter and a half farther than the second-best throw.
Perry earned her second UMAC Athlete of the Week honor after helping the Cougars go 2–0 on the court last week. The junior guard opened the week with 15 points in a one-point victory over Crown College. To close the week, Perry recorded a career-high 24 points against the University of Northwestern, shooting 9-for-11 from the field and 6-for-7 from three-point range. She finished the week with 13 rebounds, three assists, one steal, and one block.
The track and field team competes next on Saturday at the CSB+SJU Valentine's Day Open in Collegeville, Minn.
The women's basketball team begins the penultimate week of the regular season on Wednesday, traveling to North Central University for a 5:30 p.m. tipoff.
