Placido and Wynne Earn First Career UMAC Player of the Week Honors

| By:
ST. PAUL, Minn. – Kat Placido of the University of Minnesota Morris women's track and field team and Jhazlyn Wynne on the UMM Tennis team each earned their first Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Athlete of the Week award for the period of Feb. 16–22, as announced Tuesday, Feb. 24.

Placido earned her first UMAC Field Athlete of the Week honor after leading the Cougars in the weight throw at the Maverick Indoor Open. Competing against Division II athletes, Placido placed 16th. Last week, the Rainier, Ore., native out-threw the conference by 0.95 meters. Placido currently sits in second place overall in the UMAC, trailing only teammate Amaya Willis.

Wynne becomes the first Cougar to win Tennis Player of the Week this season. On Sunday, she went 2-0, winning her first collegiate matches. Wynne opened the day in doubles, where she and Allison Bruhn earned a 6-0 sweep at the No. 1 position. In singles action, the Grand Forks, N.D., native rallied after dropping the first set to take the second set 7-5, then capped off the win with a 6-0 sweep in the third set.

The track and field team will compete in the UMAC Indoor Championships on Friday and Saturday.

The tennis team returns to action on Saturday as it takes on University of Wisconsin-River Falls and Bemidji State University.
