MORRIS, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Morris women's tennis team continues its tough opening schedule as it prepares to face the University of Wisconsin-River Falls and Division II Bemidji State University on Saturday in Bemidji, Minn.

The Cougars are coming off their first win of the season, defeating Buena Vista University 5-2. In doubles play,
Allison Bruhn and
Jhazlyn Wynne, along with
Avery Davis and
Mariah Mireles, won their matches to secure the first point of the season. In singles competition, Kristen Müller, Mireles, Wynne, and
Katharine Kelm all earned victories to clinch the team win. After going 2-0 on the day, Wynne was named Upper Midwest Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week.

UW-River Falls carries a 2-11 record dating back to the fall season. The Falcons have not yet competed in a spring match. Head coach Jon Koenigs is in his second season with the program. Sarah Baker leads the team with a 5-8 record in singles play.

Bemidji State holds a 6-3 record. The Beavers opened the season 6-0 but have dropped their last three matches. Last week, BSU fell 7-0 to Augustana University, the University of Sioux Falls, and the University of North Dakota. Kyle Fodness is in his seventh season as head coach of the program. Paula Garcia Acebal, Valesca Rodriguez, and Lauren Rutten lead the team with 5-4 records. This will be the second meeting between BSU and UMM this season, with the Beavers winning the first matchup.
