SUPERIOR, Wis. – The University of Minnesota Morris women's track & field team finished day one of the UMAC Indoor Championship, hosted by the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference, in sixth place.
Amaya Willis won the weight throw, highlighting the first day of action in Superior.
In the track events,
Mary Watry qualified for the 60-meter hurdles, running the fifth-fastest preliminary time at 10.29. In the 60 meters,
Nibras Luqman,
April Knight, and
Hope Berscheit all set personal records.
Sylvia Pesch scored the team's first points in the 5,000 meters, placing third with a season-best time.
In relay action, the team of Pesch,
Eve Zimmerman,
Lindsey Hause, and
Ava Miller placed fifth in the 4,000-meter distance medley relay.
Willis won the weight throw by nearly a meter with a mark of 14.40 meters.
Kat Placido also scored with a third-place finish at 13.50 meters. Hause added points with an eighth-place finish in the high jump.
The Cougars conclude the UMAC Indoor Championship tomorrow (Saturday).
