Box Score ST. PAUL, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Morris softball team was defeated 11-3 by Crown College in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference play Friday night in St. Paul, Minn.

GingerAnn Lucas started the game with a leadoff walk but was left on base to end the top of the first. The Polars took the lead in the bottom of the first with a three-run home run. Crown extended its lead to 10-0 by the end of the third.

The Cougars started the fourth with back-to-back walks from
Olivia Losee and
Alyssa Thornton.
Mary Landherr drove in the first run for UMM with a double to left field.

Kendra Schmitz and
Ro Diver each drew a walk to load the bases, but UMM left them loaded.

Lucas started the fifth with a walk and then stole second. Thornton and Landherr loaded the bases after each drew a one-out walk. Anderson had another sacrifice fly to score Lucas. Schmitz reloaded the bases with a single, but for the second inning in a row, the Cougars left three runners stranded. Crown added another run in the fifth to secure the 11-3 win.

Minnesota Morris had two hits in the game, from Landherr and Schmitz, with Landherr recording a double. The Cougars drew eight walks in the contest, with Lucas and Thornton drawing a pair each. Anderson recorded two RBIs, and Landherr had one, while Lucas, Losee, and Derhak each scored a run. Thornton pitched the full game for UMM, recording seven strikeouts.

The Cougars and Polars conclude the series tomorrow (Saturday) with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
