Softball Series with North Central Moved to Tuesday, Wednesday

MORRIS, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Morris softball team has moved its series with North Central University to Tuesday and Wednesday. The three-game Upper Midwest Athletic Conference series will begin on Tuesday at 7 p.m., with a doubleheader to follow on Wednesday starting at 10 a.m.

Last time out, the Cougars fell to Bethany Lutheran College in the series and are currently tied for fourth place with a conference record of 2-4. GingerAnn Lucas led the Cougars in the home-opening series, batting .500. In the first game of the doubleheader, Lucas went 4-for-4 at the plate and scored three of the team's six runs. Alyssa Thornton and Morgan Wilhelm pitched for UMM and combined for 11 strikeouts over the weekend.
 
Offensively, Lucas leads the team with a .381 batting average, totaling 16 hits, two doubles, and one triple. Mary Landherr follows, batting .357, while Olivia Losee and Jillian Anderson are also above .300 at .333 and .313, respectively. Anderson leads the team in RBIs with 10, while Losee has scored a team-high 12 runs. Losee also has both of the Cougars' home runs. On the basepaths, Taylor Johnson has stolen 11 bases to lead the team.
 
In the circle, Thornton has a team-low 5.40 ERA in 57 innings. She holds a record of 3-8 and has struck out 24 batters. Wilhelm follows with a 10.66 ERA in 42.2 innings pitched.
 
North Central holds a record of 1-10 overall and is 0-2 in conference play. The Rams are coming off their spring break trip, where they picked up their first win of the season, defeating Westminster College 7-5. Madi Hecox is in her first season as head coach of NCU. Bailey Bast and Kianna Kidder lead the team, each batting .250. Alley Fleener leads the team in the circle with a 12.77 ERA and six strikeouts.
