Tennis Continues Conference Play with a Pair of Home Matches

MORRIS, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Morris women's tennis team will play its first home matches of the season as it hosts Bethany Lutheran College and the University of Northwestern in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) play. The match between the Cougars and Vikings will be played on Sunday at 2:30 p.m., and UMM and UNW will face off on Tuesday at 2 p.m.
 
The Cougars began UMAC play on March 28 against Crown College, falling 5-2. Earning wins for Morris were Mariah Mireles and Kristen Müller. Müller won at the No. 2 position, 7-6 and 7-5, while Mireles won 6-3, 6-3 at No. 3. In doubles play, UMM came close to winning both matches, but the team of Jhazlyn Wynne and Müller fell 6-4, and Mireles and Katharine Kelm were defeated 7-5.
 
Bethany Lutheran enters with a 3-11 overall record and will play its first conference match on Friday at Crown College. The Vikings last competed on March 28, falling 6-1 to Wartburg College and the University of Wisconsin-Stout. Michael Janes is in his second season as head coach at BLC. Campbell Amundson leads the team with a 6-7 record, splitting time between the No. 2 and No. 3 positions.
 
Northwestern holds a 6-11 overall record and will play its first conference match against Crown on April 11. The Eagles competed against the University of Wisconsin-River Falls on April 7, where they fell 5-2. Matt Swigart is in his 14th season as head coach of the tennis program. Sarah Langridge leads UNW with a 10-7 record, playing at the team's No. 2 position.
