MORRIS, Minn. – The Unversity of Minnesota Morris softball team fell 4-9 and 4-16 to they University of Northwestern in UMAC conference double header on Friday in Morris, Minn.
The Cougars drop to 5-6 in conference play and 7-16 in overall record, while the Eagles move to 7-0 in conference play and 15-10 overall.
Game 1
The Eagles scored in the first when Schoper crossed the plate on a wild pitch. Aylssa Thornton and the Cougars defense were able to hold the Eagles at just one run until
Olivia Losee was driven home on a single from
Mary Landherr in the bottom of the third inning tying the game.
In the top of the 4
th and 5
th innings the Eagles were able to score 6 runs building their lead to 7-1. In the bottom of the 5
th Taylor Johnson would score bring the Cougars back within 5 runs which would hold until the 7
th inning when the Eagles would add two more runs building their lead to 9-2 with the Cougars still to bat.
Taylor Johnson would get the Cougars started with an infield single and after stealing both 2
nd and 3
rd Olivia Losee would drive a triple to right field scoring Johnson. Losee would also cross the plate off a Landherr single to left center. The Eagles defense would stop the Cougars comeback after that.
Game 2
Similar to game 1 the Eagles would get on the board right away in the 1
st inning on an Anderson single. The Cougars would struggle to get anything going until the 4
th inning which would see them in a 16 run deficit. In the 4
th Ro Diver singled to center field to get the Cougars on the board with Landherr in, then
Isabelle Derhak reach on a fielders choice and then Thornton would score on a double steal with her and Derhak to make the score 3-16.
Kendra Schmitz would single to second base allowing
Leslie Murken to score the Cougars 4
th run of the game making the final score 4-16.
