MORRIS, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Morris softball team enters the final week of the regular season as it prepares to take on Division II University of Minnesota Crookston and the University of Wisconsin-Superior.

The Cougars travel to Crookston, Minn., on Wednesday, with games starting at 3 p.m. UMM will then wrap up Upper Midwest Athletic Conference play against UW-Superior on Friday and Saturday. The Cougars and Yellowjackets will play a single game on Friday at 4 p.m., followed by a doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m. on Saturday.

Last week, the Cougars competed in a doubleheader against Division II Northern State University.
Alyssa Thornton and
Morgan Wilhelm each pitched a game, allowing three earned runs apiece. Offensively, Thornton,
Kendra Schmitz, and
Mary Landherr each drew two walks in one game. Thornton, Schmitz,
Jillian Anderson, and
Taylor Johnson all recorded a hit.

Landherr leads the Cougars with a .432 batting average and ranks fourth in the UMAC. She has tallied 32 hits, 10 doubles, and one home run. Schmitz and Johnson follow at .397 and .375, respectively.
Olivia Losee leads the team with three home runs and has a team-high 19 RBIs. Thornton has drawn a team-high 18 walks, while Johnson ranks fourth in the conference with 17 stolen bases.

In the circle, Thornton leads the Cougars with a 4.74 ERA over 90 innings and has struck out 54 batters. Wilhelm has appeared in 13 games and holds a 10.18 ERA.
Kennedy Biegler has recorded the lone save for Minnesota Morris this season.

Minnesota Crookston has a 14-37 overall record and is 8-18 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. The Golden Eagles are on a four-game losing streak after dropping their most recent series to Concordia University-St. Paul, 7-0 and 5-1. Ashton Sangster is in her first season as head coach of UMC. Chayse Doering leads the Golden Eagles with a .340 batting average and a team-high four home runs, while Charlotte Dombrowski leads the team in pitching with a 4.42 ERA.

This will be the first meeting between the Cougars and Golden Eagles since 2008.

UW-Superior holds a 20-13 overall record and is 10-5 in the UMAC, sitting in third place. Last week, the Yellowjackets swept Crown College in conference action, 14-5, 9-0, and 13-3. Melissa Fracker is in her sixth season as head coach of UWS. Larissa Snyder leads the offense with a .391 batting average and seven home runs. In the circle, Abby Mitchell has a 2.96 ERA with 75 strikeouts.
