SUPERIOR, Wis. – The University of Minnesota Morris women's track & field team finished the first day of the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference Championship in fifth place. The Cougars had three athletes score in both the shot put and javelin on day one.
To start the meet,
Lindsey Hause just missed scoring after running a personal best in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, finishing ninth. In the 100-meter hurdles prelims,
Mary Watry placed eighth to qualify for the finals on day two.
Nibras Luqman also qualified for the finals, placing fourth in the 100-meter prelims. Watry and
Lilly Ronholdt both scored in the 400-meter hurdles, finishing sixth and seventh, respectively, with Ronholdt setting a personal record in the event. In the 200 meters, Luqman added three points for UMM with a sixth-place finish, running a personal-best time of 27.06. To close out day one on the track, the team of Ronholdt,
Ava Miller, Hause, and
Eve Zimmerman finished fifth in the 4x800-meter relay.
In the field events,
Brynna York cleared 2.60 meters in the pole vault to finish seventh and score for the Cougars. Minnesota Morris had three athletes place in the top eight in the shot put:
Jordan Ohman,
Amaya Willis, and
Payton Stangl. Ohman led the team with a throw of 10.78 meters, finishing fifth. UMM also had three athletes score in the javelin, with
Gretchen Andresen, Ohman, and Stangl placing sixth, seventh, and eighth, respectively.
The Cougars will wrap up the meet on Saturday, with events starting at 11 a.m.
